Abstract
Journalists rely heavily on acronyms, perhaps part of the insider's lexicon. But for people not in the know, how well do those “well-known” initials — NRA, SPCA, CIA and FDA, for example — translate in the morning paper? Acronyms are intended as easy shorthand, but should all these initials really be SOP?
