Abstract
Editors of Kentucky newspapers with less than 50,000 circulation identify several predictors of a “chilling effect” of libel suits affecting community papers. Smaller paper, papers that have been sued or threatened with libel suits, independently owned papers and those carrying libel insurance — these papers are seen as most likely to be “chilled.”
