Abstract
One month after the 1986 Knoxville Journal change of publication time to afternoon and the Knoxville News-Sentinel change to morning, 488 subscribing households were surveyed. Data indicate almost 5% of the sample canceled subscriptions, 15% switched newspapers to retain their old delivery time and only 15% were “glad” the switch occurred The morning paper had fewer cancellations and a larger proportion switched to it. Readers with morning delivery spread their reading throughout the day, while readers with afternoon delivery concentrated their reading in the afternoon and evening.
