Abstract
The state desk's dilemma is how to include the best news articles for readers of each edition of the newspaper. Applying only the “proximity” news value can result in weaker stories appearing simply because they're “local” for a particular edition. This research project offers state desk staffers a way to evaluate their story selection process and perhaps improve it.
