Abstract
Some scientists have complained that new explanatory and investigative trends in science reporting result in public misinformation about science and are ethically questionable. This essay explores some ethical reasons for the new techniques adopted by science reporters since 1970 and finds the changes occurred by necessity and reflect a firm ethical foundation. The recent shift in journalistic emphasis is seen as a necessary adaption to changes within science, which enables more persons to participate in national debates about science policy.
