Abstract
Newspapers, especially larger and group-owned dailies, are using computer-accessed data bases more. Their value is highly regarded, but many papers cannot afford them, and some editors suggest they provide too much information for medium and small papers. Data base information on national and international events, individuals and corporations is generally praised. General assignment reporters use bases most frequently; editorial writers least often. The relationship between library and news-side managers needs more investigation.
