Abstract
This article examines stress-related disorders of journalists who cover traumatic events through the lens of Merriman Smith, a UPI reporter first to report on the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Horrible dreams, chronic headaches and increased alcohol consumption plagued Smith after his Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of Kennedy’s shooting and death in 1963.
