Content Analysis Shows “Red States” Used More than “Blue States”

Abstract

An analysis of five newspapers and two wire services traced the use of the terms “red states” and “blue states” from 2002 to 2008. The Washington Post and The New York Times were early adoptors of the terms in 2002, and the term “Red States” was used most often.
