Abstract
Harvey Perloff's Education for Planning is the classic justification for the modern planning curriculum. This paper examines Perloff's proposals, updates his analysis, and makes its own recommendations. Perloff argued for his curricular proposals in terms of their impact on society. The paper calls for reestablishing this as the basis for discussions about the planning curriculum and, as a result, proposes broadening planning education beyond professional planning. To achieve this, the paper proposes realigning planning's academic focus along more traditional academic lines.
