This article presents an economic and demographic model of a nation facing a growing external threat which can be countered by military efforts. The model shows how such a nation might be gradually debilitated by its enemies and how a nation might defend itself through various economic, demographic, and technological investments. Applications of the model to Israel are discussed. More genera! versions of this model could be applied to conflict between other social units.
