It is the responsibility of the educational diagnostician to evaluate children who may present any one of a number of different problems, including hearing impairment. The purpose of this paper is to present information regarding the major components of a basic audiology test battery and the effects of hearing impairment on certain areas of development. Pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, impedance testing, and types of hearing loss are discussed. The contribution of each of the tests is pointed out and illustrative audiometric findings are presented.
