Abstract
Durable press and flame retardancy were imparted to cotton chambray and denim fabrics when DMDHEU was used in combination with THPS-NH3 or with either THPS or THPC precondensate-NH3 flame retardant systems and applied by a number of different techniques. The influence of sequence of ap plication of the crosslinking agent was investigated by applying DMDHEU to fabrics either before, after, or simultaneously with the flame retardant treat ment. These variations have a marked effect on smooth-dry performance, strength, durability, hand and other properties of the fabrics. Fabrics with the best combination of flame retardancy, durable press and strength properties were those that were processed with a two-step procedure in which the flame retardant was applied first, followed by a second step application of DMDHEU.
