This article reviews the Age Discrimination and EmploymentAct (ADEA) and how the expiration of its exemption on the mandatory retirement provisions for firefighters is likely to affect the retirement patterns in a large midwestern urban fire department. The implementation of health and fitness tests for all firefighters is also addressed.
