Abstract
The Das-Naglieri Cognitive Assessment System is a new assessment approach now undergoing national standardization that includes four groups of subtests based on Luria's PASS model of cogniive processes. The PASS model subtests of the CAS include tests that measure Planning, Attention, and Simultaneous and Successive Processing. Each of the tests is designed to measure these elementary cognitive processes, none of which is heavily dependent on schooling. Validity of the battery is based on factor analytic studies that show that the sets of subtests replicate the PASS model. Criterion-based and predictive validity studies are still in their exploratory stages, but preliminary evidence indicates that performance on the test improves with age and that there is a significant relationship between performance on the tests and reading.
