Based upon the results of a multi-trait — multi-method (MTMM) investigation, Cowart and McCallum (1988) found minimal support for the simultaneous-successive-planning (S-S-P) model of cognitive processing proposed by Das and his colleagues. This paper provides a critical appraisal of the study and draws special attention to methodological weaknesses that seriously undermine the author's conclusions. Interested readers are encouraged to examine the considerable evidence on S-S-P and more recent research on the full explication of Luria's model, which includes the first functional unit of attention in addition to S-S-P.
