The additional time required for a front check (rapid chemical analysis for criterial components) of lorry loads arriving at a landfill has been estimated by computer simulations based on observed patterns at two landfills of different types. The advantage of separating sample preparation from analysis per se is demonstrated and queue lengths have been estimated for various configurations.
