Planning,Design and On-Going Control of Environmental Protection Practices for Landfill Sites in the U.K

Abstract

A private operator's view of the detailed and varied factors that need to be assessed when considering the opening and running of a new controlled landfill site is outlined. Particular emphasis is placed on the need to properly plan, design and control a landfill site, for it is only through these means that the Industry will gain public confidence and acceptability. Although not specifically dealing with Special Wastes, the principles of landfill design and operation will apply in general to most operators.
