Abstract
Inspired by my experiences as a leader and instructor of various forms of life review groups and classes, this article provides the reader with a conceptual and experiential introduction to the uses of guided autobiography with the elderly. Functions and forms of and guidelines and methods for guided autobiography are examined. Seen as a historical and psychological process, guided autobiography is considered from a gerontological perspective. Specific topics and techniques for the facilitation of the life review process are recommended.
