Abstract
The present paper shows a stiffness and damage identification method of symmetrically laminated plates using bending deflection under static loading. First, six bending stiffness components are identified by the minimization of a vector norm of the residual forces using a nonlinear optimization technique. Next, in a similar manner, the location and the magnitude of damage in the symmetric laminate are identified. Effects of the number of measured deflections on the identification results are examined numerically.
