Abstract
This paper deals with the experimental evaluation of different insert types placed in the resin rich area of composite T-joints subjected to tension (pull-out) force. A detailed finite element analysis based on ply geometry obtained from an electronic microscope of a T-joint with no insert is presented. Correlation between experimental and the finite element load-deflection curve shows an excellent agreement. Strength prediction for the noinsert configuration based on interply resin failure agrees well with experimental observations and material data.
