Abstract
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a commonly used plastic in the hydraulic sealing industry. Although well used, relatively little information is available concerning physical property relationships. The non-linear mathematical model presented in this study has been developed to use a combination of linear elastic and thermoplastic relationships to describe stress and strain properties for varying temperatures. Three temperature-based con-stants were used to develop the model. Two of the three constants formed relatively smooth slopes as shown on graphs relating them to temperature. Final results from the non-linear mathematical model indicate that most of the predicted values deviate from about 10% of the experimental data.
