Abstract
The generalized Yeh-Stratton criteria is applied to calculate the fracture stress of multi-directional fibrous composite material with existing cracks or circular holes under uniaxial tensile load. The failure stresses were predicted and compared with the prediction of the theory of Nuismer and Whitney and the experimental data.
Based on this study, it is recommended that for cracks and circular holes with larger crack size and radius (>0.6 inch), the Yeh-Stratton failure criterion could be used as a proper design guide.
