Abstract
A novel processing concept, the directed flow die, has been demonstrated to be a powerful method for producing controlled curvature in extrusions with complex shapes. The directed flow die operates by changing flow path lengths between a single, relatively small feed port opening and locations on the die plate. This concept has led to a number of patented geometries including the ball-and-socket die and rotating cylinder dies with axial or transverse feed for single and multiple components.
