A general class of randomly-oriented composite laminate is presented where the stiffness characteristics are isotropic with respect to both in-plane stretching and out-of-plane bending conditions. The simple random statistical study indicated that a fairly isotropic laminate is reached if the number of laminae with arbitrary orientation is over 40.
