A continuum damage mechanics concept is used to discuss the brittle fail ure propagation in a heterogeneous reinforced composite enabling us to impose the condi tion on the constants of constituents and composite to ensure the durability of composite so as to have an indepth study of the work [1], where assumption of homogeneity was a restriction. Further, no condition is placed on the shape of the inclusions which may for example be fibrous or plate like.
