Abstract
In-plane compressive and three-point bend tests were performed to evalu ate the strengths of composite laminates containing embedded sensors. Unidirectional, cross-ply and quasi-isotropic specimens were fabricated using Fiberite T300/976 or Fiberite APC-2 unidirectional tape. A thermocouple or a strain gauge was embedded at the center of the specimen, and the in-plane compressive and bending strengths were measured. For comparison, the strengths of specimens without sensors were also mea sured. The data showed that the sensors had little effect on the strength.
