Abstract
Delammation is an important failure mode for anisotropic composite lami nates. And interlaminar stresses are recognized to play a major role causing delamination. However, the features of anisotropically generalized plane stress theory are utilized to determine interlaminar stresses. Based upon the theory of anisotropy and boundary layer effect, stress shapes are chosen such that the equilibrium equations, the corresponding boundary conditions and traction continuity in the interface are satisfied. The parameters of α and X in the stress expressions are then calculated by requirement of stress integral equilibrium. Several composite laminates, such as cross-ply [0/90]s, angle-ply [±45], and ARALL (Aramid Reinforced Aluminum Laminates), are analyzed. The obtained predic tions are in good agreement with previous analytical and numerical results. The order of singularity of boundary-layer effect at the free edge is compared closely to the results in the literature.
