Abstract
Micro-failure criteria are proposed for the determination of the ultimate stresses of unidirectional coated-fiber composites. The failure criteria involve the micro- stresses induced in the fiber, coating and matrix materials by the composite external load ing. The determination of the stresses within the phases is performed by utilizing a micromechanical analysis and a coated inclusion theory, in conjunction with the assump tion of a sufficiently thin coating. The method is applied on three types of metal matrix composites with coated fibers.
