Theoretical investigation is presented in the improvement of damping capacity of low fibre volume fraction composites by deliberate introduction of slip at the filler-matrix interface under transverse loading. A method is developed by which slip, no-slip and separation zones at the interface can be established at various loads and precompressions. The loss factors are calculated from the knowledge of stress fields for various coefficients of fric tion at the interface.
