Abstract
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) nanocomposites were prepared by melt-mixing virgin ABS with organoclay. The organoclay was prepared by modifying sodium montmorillonite clay. The increase in the basal spacing of sodium montmorillonite clay resulting from modification and polymer intercalation was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The dispersion of clay layers in the polymer matrix was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Mechanical and thermal properties of the prepared nanocomposites were investigated. The prepared ABS nanocomposites were also subjected to characterization by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).
