Abstract
This study presents a method for simulating the flow balance of a multicavity injection mold (MCIM) system. Flow imbalance is caused by shear rate segregation at a branch point in the runner system. Five parameters are considered, including the material and process parameters for multicavity injection molding. The mass fraction index (MFI) and flow balance index (FBI) are proposed to describe the flow imbalance of the injection mold. A lower melt temperature, a lower diameter of the runner, and a higher glass transition temperature of the material, all correspond to a greater flow imbalance in a multicavity injection mold system.
