Abstract
A series of thermoplastic composites have been fabricated by impregnating polyester nonwoven fabric in poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate) latex having different monomer ratios of styreneto-butyl acrylate viz., 100/0, 90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 60/40, and 50/50 weight by weight. The latex-based matrix of poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate) has been prepared using the conventional emulsion polymerization technique. The fabricated composites have been studied for physicomechanical properties, chemical resistance, percentage of water absorption, and percentage of thickness swelling. The prepared composites have been investigated for their ability to retain their shape after molding to the desired shape by measuring the percentage area shape retention, hardness, and resilience.
