Abstract
The behavior of short fiber composites are characterized by scatter in mechanical properties due to randomness in fiber orientation, spacing and packing arrangement etc. Thus probabilistic analysis is essential to study its behavior properly. A simulation method is proposed in the present work for computing statistical property of effective moduli of short fiber composite system in an isotropic matrix phase, appropriate to thin section in a state of plane stress. The effective isotropic properties of the composites derived are in terms of elastic properties of each phase and the volume concentration of the fiber phase. Changes in elastic moduli due to abovementioned parameters are taken into consideration in simulation algorithm. A case study is performed to elucidate the proposed algorithm and comparison is made with the available results.
