Abstract
The author reviews Matthew Desmond's study of risk in firefighting, Gary Alan Fine's study of weather forecasting, and Kevin Borg's study of the history of auto mechanics, identifying common themes related to the production of masculinity in a postindustrial economy, the negotiation of specialized knowledge and expertise, and finally the reproduction of social inequality against a backdrop of technological innovation.
