Abstract
A comparative study of two methods of initiating a psychodrama session is reported. The treatment course with 24 neurotic outpatients comprised six weekly sessions of psychodrama.
This study demonstrates that patients participating in psychodrama sessions where the theme is introduced by the therapist do so more actively than do patients treated in a group where the psychodramatic theme results from the preliminary group discussion. The affective component of the participation of the former group was also more pronounced as they were either warmer or more aggressive than the group where the theme arose from the group discussion.
The reduction of the total psychopathology was not significantly different in the two groups.
