Abstract
The traditional psychiatric institution, when imbued of contemporary psychiatric principles, may become an excellent milieu for theoretical and practical training for each one of the members of the treating staff.
The author reports of an 18 months experience lived both at the university and hospital level, which occurred during the psychiatric teaching reorganization in a traditional psychiatric centre.
After describing the objective pursued in such a postgraduate training for the different health disciplines, the author points out how the psychiatric hospital can meet this challenge. The principles of the theoretical and practical program are briefly described along with the administrative structures of teaching in the hospital milieu. The emphasis set forth in the consultative role of certain teaching committees established according with the principles of a multi-disciplinary approach permits a far more effective comprehensive co-ordination.
