Selfhood emerges from the matrix of primary relationships through the infant-care-giver dialogues. Current knowledge of early development clarifies the nature of these dialogues and confirms their significance. The Group-analytic situation is based on dialogical exchanges and in that situation it is possible to recognize and work with disturbed dialogues and exchanges. By its very nature group analysis has considerable power to facilitate the restoration of more sensitive and creative exchanges which will lead to the reemergence and transformation of Self and Self-identity.
