This article is an initial exploration of connections between the working through of the Oedipal conflict and the development of the capacity to think in a group analytical group. It looks at approaches taken by different writers to the development of mind, at the signs of resistance to thinking in the therapy group, and at the possibilities the group offers to resolve pre-Oedipal stages to enable the development of conscious thinking.
