Quo Vadis? Academic Autonomy and Freedom: The Case of Economics Discipline in Turkey

Abstract

Caught between neoliberalism and authoritarianism, which have long mutually reinforced one another, academia at the global level is presently under serious pressure. This hostile environment weighs even more heavily on radical economics. This manuscript highlights the case of Turkey, elaborating from a historical perspective the difficulties academic life has faced in terms of safeguarding autonomy and freedom in general and radical economics in particular.
