Abstract
Lasertherapy by means of high energy infrared laser generators at 904 nM with short and high frequency pulses (3,000 Hz and more) and mean power of 12 mW proved to be a good antiinflammatory and analgesic agent. 43 patients affected by prostatic inflammation underwent a cycle of transrectal lasertherapy and the authors evaluated the symptomatology, uroflowmetry and echographic pattern modifications. 5/8 patients affected by prostatic adenoma inflammation had a significant improvement from the subjective and clinical point of view; 3 patients with acute bacterial prostatitis had a complete resolution. 2/2 patients with “prostatism” had an important subjective improvement. 14/17 patients with chlamydia-related prostatitis had a complete resolution. 11/11 with non-bacterial chronic prostatitis had a subjective improvement. The reliability of the transrectal lasertherapy as well as its low cost and the quite good outcomes obtained prove to be effective enough to go on with this treatment in order to achieve statistically significant results with a higher percentage of patients and over a longer term.
