Abstract
The experimental studies in vitro and in vivo concerning the solubility of paraffin in the urinary bladder with the aid of chemical solvents such as: benzine, benzene, xylene, toluene, kerosene and turpentine were performed, It was found that a 3-gram lump of paraffin could be dissolved in 25 ml. of a solvent in 25 minutes. Kerosene and turpentine dissolved paraffin in 90 and 120 minutes, and so they were excluded from the experiments in vivo. On macro - and microscopic examination after 24 hours a severe suppurative cystitis with inflammatory peritoneal reaction could be found as a result of the application of solvent for 25 minutes. The use of the above method for clinical purposes in therefore inadvisable.
