Abstract
This article tells the story of the Dom Raja and his unique place within the Dom community of Varanasi, a group often pushed to the margins of society. Despite being excluded from the mainstream, the Dom Raja’s presence stands as a testament to resilience and continuity. More than just a leader, he embodies a sense of dignity and pride for his people. For generations, his lineage has been a pillar that holds the community together, not just through authority but through an emotional bond that strengthens their shared identity. The discussion examines how the Dom Raja’s role is not just about power but about being a symbol of hope and cultural pride for the Dom people. His position has helped preserve the group’s heritage and kept alive traditions that could have been lost. Yet, this connection goes deeper; it is about maintaining a sense of worth in the face of exclusion and prejudice. The first half of the article provides a thorough historical background of the Dom community, whereas the second half focuses on the role of Dom Raja within the community. This study looks at how the Dom community navigates societal challenges by drawing strength from their shared roots, with the Dom Raja serving as a source of continuity. By understanding the human stories behind the titles and history, this article illustrates how a marginalised group keeps its culture intact and finds strength in the legacy of a leader who represents more than just a name but a sense of belonging and identity.
