Abstract
Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay was the greatest pioneer of Indian nationalism. He was able to create a national emotion through his various writings. His various novels, satirical works and essays highlighted the incomparable ideal of patriotism. How he made efforts to rescue Bengalis in particular and Indians in general is the main subject of this article. It is quite true that the path shown by Bankimchandra led to the rise of militant nationalism. It is needless to say that many armed revolutionaries sacrificed their lives to liberate our motherland on the path shown by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay. His momentous vision inspired the whole country to win the war of India’s independence till the end. Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay’s entire literary oeuvre was profoundly shaped by an ardent love for his motherland. His imagination was not merely aesthetic but also deeply nationalistic, animated by the dream of awakening a subjugated and impoverished people to dignity and selfhood. The plight of the oppressed haunted his conscience and found expression in his novels, essays and patriotic hymns. Through his pen, literature became a vehicle of moral regeneration and collective aspiration, inspiring generations to envision freedom, unity and spiritual resurgence.
