Abstract
The author presents the view that the Parent message, “Don't interrupt,” inhibits spontaneous and intimate conversation. In addition, people who have grown up with certain early injunctions are helped to change behaviors and then script by learning the “whens and hows” of direct OK interrupting. Examples of ineffective and effective interrupting are given.
