A female script called, “Be Independent, Ha, Ha!” is described which creates a bind based on the injunctions Don't Be Close, Don't Think, and Don't Make It. Horney's (1934/1973) article, “The Overvaluation of Love,” is discussed in relation to this script, and an alternative hypothesis regarding the genesis of this script in terms of abandonment and female identity issues is offered. Clinical interventions are also suggested.
