Lack of understanding of the therapeutic relationship can handicap therapists and clients with regard to fulfilling the potential of the therapeutic project. This article presents the Therapeutic Relationship Model, a conceptual framework that serves as a multidimensional template through which to view the therapeutic relationship. An example of the use of the model is provided emphasizing its effectiveness in helping clinicians make purposeful intervention and treatment planning choices.
