Abstract
This paper defines and discusses borderline phenomena found across various diagnostic categories. The authors divide these phenomena into six groups (which overlap to some degree): 1) quick entry into transference relationships, 2) inviting symbiosis with rapid switches between Victim and Persecutor roles, 3) projective chain redefinitions, 4) grandiosity with rapid shifts between its poles (minimization-maximization), 5) alternating between the passive behaviors of “doing nothing” and agitation, and 6) escalation in intensity and severity of games. Examples and therapeutic interventions are given for each phenomena.
