The paper describes how the development of a transitional object plays a crucial role in the growth of the healthy personality. Given its critical nature, the development and clinical aspects are examined in the light of T.A. theory. In particular, we relate transitional phenomena to the development of the Child ego state. Further, we consider the clinical implications, by examining these notions in relation to the therapeutic process and the course of therapy.
