Mental health care for chronically mentally ill residents of group homes and nursing homes is very limited. Yet these facilities house a high number of diagnosed psychiatric patients. This article describes the need for mental health service in these institutions and also suggests that through creative and well-designed staff education programs, Special Fields can help to narrow this gap in the mental health care system.
