This study examined the characteristics of more helpful and less helpful consultative experiences as viewed by the consultee. The results in terms of ego states, type of transaction and life position, distinguished significantly between the two types of consultation. Also, there seemed to be a reciprocity between the consultee's view of the consultation and of him/herself in ego state and life position terms. These findings hold implications for both practitioner and trainer.
